“I love it so much that I moved here twice.”
Originally hailing from New York, Mary’s sunny demeanor and eclectic sensibilities landed her in Portland. And the first time she wandered through our doors? A lucky day for all! We were instantly captivated by her lovely personality, and soon scooped her up to become Boutique Director of our Johns Landing location. With her New England background and a flair for the creative, we sat down to chat about the serious stuff: costumes, consignment and her ultimate weakness.
J. Crew Meets Jeffrey Campbell
Self-describing her style as a combination between classic/preppy and forward-thinking/weird, one thing is clear: Mary loves dress-up. She connects her affinity for clothes with her adoration of women’s consignment: finding those unique pieces to create a totally different look. Her love for locals also has her especially excited to work in a storefront setting. We have been known to host a regular or two from time to time…
Citing Halloween as her favorite holiday, her litany of creative costumes is sure to please a crowd. Listening to Mary describe her most tried and true costume methods, she’s clearly learned a thing or two: “Looking for a certain costume silhouette is less about finding the exact pieces to make it work, and more about finding the right feeling even without the exact same pieces.” Included here is a photo of her in an Audrey Hepburn costume, but she wants to make it clear: “That ‘cigarette’ is actually a Burgerville fry with ketchup!”
“I have a compulsion to try on every shoe in the world.”
Sixty seconds with any fashion-lover usually reveals her ultimate weaknesses. Is it designer handbags? Luxury fabrics? As the headline reveals, you guessed it: SHOES! She cites her favorite resale scores as follows: an auburn pair of Cole Haan lace-up boots and a nautical pair of red J. Crew flats. Also on the list? The distinctive quirkiness of Fluevog shoewear. So plan a visit to our SW resale boutique location soon, where you’re likely to find Mary twirling past the shelves of our Shoe LaLa! Room.
Passing the baton and signing out for now,
